making an interface more intuitive, visually appealing, and user friendly without dumbing down the game will make a game better 10 times out of 10.

I'm sorry, but that literally made no sense whatsoever. Comparing not showing the battlefield where the general has to determine strategy real time as the seconds tick away to showing lines for range length and how far the units have traveled already in a "real time war report tab" is comical at best. How about we just make it like Valor where the battle is basically predetermined and you don't have to strategize at all? Clowns.

Re: Command troops improvements

my point is that some people on here are arguing not to add things to this game that would be beneficial purely on the basis of "that's not how it's always been."

i just believe that this game has room for improvement and the developers should always feel that way as well if they have any ambition to increase the popularity and enjoyment of the game (ie. make more money).

why pick and choose what battle elements show up graphically? the units' reletive position and direction show up - why not your units' range? why not your units' speed?

i don't see how a tab showing you that the enemy's archers are the ones that knocked off your cats would be comical although i'm not sure it would be extremely useful.

yes cherith thats how its always been its the culture of the game. we also want to keep it the same so as not to over complicate it for new players, whhen i first started i was so confused at battling and the range of options. it makes

Re: Command troops improvements

You're not following.

I personally don't care how it's "always been done". I am against dumbing down the game, which is exactly what adding range lines and other lines to show how far you'll advance or shoot will do.

True you can see how far the units have gone during battle, but notice that is AFTER they have moved. Same with attack for range units. You find out range AFTER they attack. Adding lines showing where they will move or shoot PRIOR to you commanding said unit will dumb down the game.

Perhaps that isn't what you mean and if so, my bad. Someone mentioned it initially and I am totally against that.

Re: Command troops improvements

i was thinking that the range lines would show their range based on their current position, not where they will be if they advance or retreat. i agree, that should not be shown. but just an indication of how close they are would be nice.

because the field length, range, and speed all vary from battle to battle it would be nice to have one more graphic cue to anchor down what's actually happening.

i get your points jlo, but i do disagree. luckily i don't think this is that big of an issue, so i'll still love the game.

Re: Command troops improvements

that's why u have scouts reports... u can know ppl speed and u can always send 1 cav to scout for the shooting lvl and real speed after items and techs... with ur idea of lines the souts would be useless only for knowing resources... the game is fun how it is now, i dont think they should change it

Re: Command troops improvements

scouting reports only tell you speed if your opponent doesn't just wait. and you wouldn't know range either if they had high level towers.

--that's all away from my point though. i don't want to see my opponent's range. i agree that's what scouting reports are for. i want to see mine. i know that i can calculate it before hand, but it would nice to see it on the battle screen. just like troop movement, you would need to calculate it to know the exact numerical range, but you would also have a visual marker to see while you're watching the battle.

Re: Command troops improvements

Nice to see people talking about range lines which I started a thread about a month or so back. A simple range line is an easily implemented GUI improvement that benefit everyone. I'd like to see where my units can hit, and hope my enemy doesn't have longer range. Their range would not be shown, just mine. It Is a simple implementation that I've done for my own games I've written. GUI improvements make it EASIER for new players to have a better visual understanding of what is happening during battle.

I.e. Just when you thought Linux couldn't get any better they improved ubuntu GUI to help new guys and make things easier for those with experience. Same could be shown for this game

range lines are a bad idea and oversimplifies the game... it has to be challenging somewhere
