Re: Based

Well It's fairly evident that this game takes place in the iron age.

The iron age began at different times around the world....in the middle east iron was a rare and precious metal as early as 3000BCE, but there really is no indication that people there recognized it's superiority to bronze. The real iron revolution took place in Europe sometime around 1200BCE, and lasted for about 2000 years, but iron weapons and tools were not made in china until around 600BCE.

Clearly, as steel weapons were already well in production by the time the holy crusades came about, this game predates the 11th century.

There is one major clue we can use to date the game, besides iron. The way we equip our cavalries. Most experts agree that the stirrup originated in northern china during the Qin dynasty around 200BCE, the saddle however, was used in it's most rudimentary form as early as 800BCE.

But the saddle with the built in stirrups, as depicted in this game, was not utilized until the fourth century AD, surprisingly.

At least this all occurs during the iron ages of all countries/regions involved.

Also of note, the catapult in it's earliest form was introduced by the Greeks around 400BCE. It then became one of the most modified and important war machines for any army until gunpowder became widely used.

I'm guessing, due to the imagery in the game, and the combination of all elements in one place, that this game is taking place around the 4th or 5th century AD.

On a side note, I know of no instances of Vikings ever using catapults, although they did make frequent use of slings. And it was only on rare occasion that they used cavalry, at such times it was not due to their own husbandry, but that of raided settlements. Famous instances occur in Ireland, but in general, Viking longboats were not equipped to carry horses.
