Branch cities

What is the best advantage of having branch cities? Are the resources useable at your main city?

Re: Branch cities

Branch cities allow you to gain more prestige from building and you can set them anywhere so you can also use them for attacking. You can also hide ur troops there if u want to make them harder to find and yes the resources can be used in your main city

Re: Branch cities

Hi! Very interesting topic.
I notice another similar topic discussing the advantages and disadvantages of branch or second or third cities etc.
How does one transfer resources and troops between them? Does it take a long time, and depend on what troops are carrying the resources, or does it depend on distance and speed?

Also u say it will be harder to find if one places it far away... But wouldn't it mean that it will take too long for you to respond and defend it should it be attacked?
Thanks!

Re: Branch cities

Hi Ian,

There are so many pro's and con's, it's difficult to really explain without being too verbose, so I'll answer what you've asked and elaborate slightly.

I notice another similar topic discussing the advantages and disadvantages of branch or second or third cities etc.
Firstly, always build or take branch cities. Holding multiple cities is one of the biggest advantages of levelling up! Pro's to having them at all:
- More resource generation
- More barracks = more troops = more prestige
- More 'main buildings' = more people = more selling/training capacity
- You can move them for half the price of your main, so moving a city to be an an advantageous position to attack / defend is cheaper.

Disadvantages:
- You may leave troops there and forget to hunt them. Get in the habit of going to "cities" and checking on them there rather than just looking in the barracks.

How does one transfer resources and troops between them? Does it take a long time, and depend on what troops are carrying the resources, or does it depend on distance and speed?

When you go to cities, you have all your cities listed. When you are in one, you get buttons below the others. These are "transport" and "dispatch" - you can use these to send resources or troops. Sending resources costs the same as selling resources on the market in terms of population. It is very very fast - taking seconds to cover what would take hours by infantry.
Dispatching troops uses the same movement speed as your normal army - so if your branch is far away, it will take some time.

Also u say it will be harder to find if one places it far away... But wouldn't it mean that it will take too long for you to respond and defend it should it be attacked?

This is true, but whether this is a pro or con depends on your play style. When you are a high level, with thousands of troops, your crop consumption becomes a big issue. One method of limiting it is to spread your army over all your cities, and amalgamate to attack. This will obviously take longer if they are far away.

When you have thousands of troops per branch, having them far away becomes an advantage again - as each branch can be used to farm forts in a new area, whereas if you always attack from your main the local ones will get empty :)

As for defending a branch - it takes 10 attacks to lose the city. 5 coins can reset the loyalty to require a further 10 attacks to take it. Or, you could just let them have it and gain some prestige by building up a new one from scratch.

There are many more things to say ... but hopefully I've said enough so that you can work out your own play style and go from there.

You sound new, yet eager to learn about the game. You can do yourself a massive favour by reading a lot of this forum, especially the guides section, and then asking questions of the details you don't understand.

Good luck!

Re: Branch cities

Branch cities close together make it easier for you to gather troops together for attacks--easier in the sense that you wait less for dispatch times. In addition, cities close together can quickly transfer resources.

Its not an end all be all though. You can use fort porting (for which there are many guides). Sub cities are useful because they double the amount of troops you can keep, and train.

You also get to name them cool things. Which is... fun. Yeah.

Sub cities FTW!
