S101 Alliance Tournament Info
In the interest of having some fun and doing something new, I would like to hold a tournament on Server 101. Although the main goal is to have fun, this tournament will also give players a chance to showcase their abilities to command their armies in a “fair” battle. A not-so-brief description of the tournament is given below.
Entries
Tournament Structure
Rounds
Scoring System
Battle Restrictions
One of the goals of this tournament is to give everyone involved a chance to compete on a level playing field. Although a completely level playing field is impossible we can come close by restricting army sizes and equipment used.
Prizes
Prizes will be awarded to the winning team in the form of treasures (i.e., crowns, scepters, etc.). The particulars will be determined once I get a final count of prizes from our generous donor Angie517 (thanks Angie!). If you would like to donate a prize for this tournament, please contact me. All donations are greatly appreciated. In addition, the winning team will have bragging rights and the top two teams will be given an automatic entry into the next tournament (if we have one).

If you have any comments (concerns/suggestions) regarding this tournament, please post them in this thread and I will try to address them as soon as possible. In-game letters are also welcome, but I may lose some of them due to mailbox overflow.
Thanks and I hope this works out well!
Also, thanks to everyone that has helped me thus far in refining my original idea for this tournament.
Entries
- Each alliance must submit a team composed of 6 members (one from each of the following title classes: Baron, Viscount, Earl, Marquis, Duke, Prince Regent/King).
- For the purposes of this first tournament, the total number of teams will be limited to 10. This is to give my assistants and me a reasonable chance to keep things running as smoothly as possible. Depending on how this works out, future tournaments may be expanded to allow for more teams. I will create an official tournament thread and post a time when the tournament will be open for registration with directions on how to register. At that point, entries will be accepted on a first come first served basis. At this point, you can expect the tournament to take place sometime in early-mid April.
- There is no entry fee for this tournament. However, in order to facilitate the process of conducting battles in a timely manner, each participant will be required to move one city into a predetermined area on the map (you may move more cities at your own discretion). I don’t like asking you to do this, but it is necessary and I appreciate your understanding in this matter.
Tournament Structure
- The entire tournament will be based on a Swiss Tournament Structure (you don’t need to look this up) consisting of 4 rounds. All teams will participate in all 4 rounds. Each round will be played out over the course of one day. The entire tournament will last 4 days.
- Before the tournament begins, teams will be ranked based on total prestige among its members. These rankings will be used to determine matchups for the first round. Teams with similar rank will be matched to face each other in the first round. At the end of each round, rankings will be updated based on the Scoring System described below. Matchups for successive rounds will be determine in the same manner according to the usual Swiss Tournament structure (trying to avoid duplicate matchups whenever possible).
Rounds
- In each round, each member will battle the corresponding member of the opposing team (e.g., Baron A vs Baron B, Viscount A vs Viscount B, etc.) 2-3 times.
- In the first battle, Team A will defend. In the second battle, Team B will defend. If a team member wins both of these battles, then that match is over. If the first two battles are split between the two members, then a third battle will take place and a coin flip by the tournament director will determine who will defend.
- A Palringo group will be setup where participants will be required to post war reports of each battle.
- All battles will take place in an oasis. The tournament director reserves the right to decide on which oasis is used in the event that both players are unable to agree on a location.
Scoring System
- Each team will begin the tournament with a score of 0 (despite their initial ranking).
- The winner of each battle will be awarded 1000 points in addition to any prestige they won from the battle. These points will be totaled to determine team scores, which will in turn determine rankings for successive rounds.
- In the event of a tie, a tiebreaker will be used to determine rankings. The tiebreaker will work as follows. Points earned by each tied team’s Baron will be used to break a tie. If this still results in a tie, then points earned by each remaining tied team’s Viscount will be used, and so on. Ultimately, if this procedure still results in a tie, the tie will be broken by a coin-flip or some other equivalently fair and random method.
Battle Restrictions
One of the goals of this tournament is to give everyone involved a chance to compete on a level playing field. Although a completely level playing field is impossible we can come close by restricting army sizes and equipment used.
- Army Restrictions – The restriction will be based on total crop consumption of the army used. This will allow for people to still be able to determine what types of troops they wish to use. The crop consumption limits will be set according to your title class as follows:
- Baron: 2,500 crops
- Viscount: 5,000 crops
- Earl: 10,000 crops
- Marquis: 15,000 crops
- Duke: 20,000 crops
- Prince Regent/King: 25,000 crops
You may use less if you choose. These limits are set reasonably low because you will need to be rebuilding troops reasonably quickly in order to continue in the tournament.
It is each participant’s responsibility to check his or her opponent’s troop count to make sure that they are within the corresponding restrictions. Report any problems to the tournament director or assistant. Anyone violating the troop restriction will forfeit the corresponding battle to his or her opponent. - Equipment Restrictions – All equipment must be removed for the entire duration of each battle. For defenders, you may remove your equipment after your troops arrive at the oasis. For attackers, you must remove your equipment before sending the attack. This may affect battle strategies so you should take this into consideration as you prepare for the tournament.
It is each participant’s responsibility to scout his or her opponent before the battle begins to ensure that equipment has been removed. If you suspect that your opponent is using equipment, contact the tournament director or one of the assistants immediately to settle the matter. Please be prepared to provide screenshots. Hopefully, everyone can be honorable in this matter and we can avoid any issues.
The tournament director reserves the right to make any final rulings regarding cheating during a battle at his own discretion. Penalties will be enforced and may result in complete disqualification of the entire team. (Please don’t make me do that.)
