scarcity events

Here's a novel idea to combat the low prices at the markets as well as add some speculation and fun. Random scarcity events like forest fires and flooded mines and locusts that halve or quarter specific resources for a couple days.

It would be very easy to do also... Just implement a global harvest modifier of -50 or -75%, announced by a log in message of explanation.

Re: scarcity events

The thing is with that is if any effects where put on crop levels then so many people would starve and lose large amounts of their armies, for those that have all lvl 9 crop oasis and maxed out crop buildings (be it lvl 15 or 20) and still have negative output that would mean that they'd have half their army starve very quickly over this 'event', also for those in younger servers that don't have this problem it would just make it that much more difficult for newbies to start off, overall it isn't an absolutely horrible idea but it isn't one that should be implemented, my vote is no, sorry.

Re: scarcity events

A very bad idea. As said above it would reak havoc with people's armies especially if they have planned how often they can feed exactly. In younger servers where most people have small easy to maintain armies it wouldn't be much of a problem which is why I'm assuming you came up with this idea, but in older servers with 50k+ drop in each city with oases it just wouldn't work.

Re: scarcity events

Ice, blue meant for all resources periodically at different times, I just used crop as an example and I think blue would be in an older server if it's a complaint about low market prices (such as the 0.01 a unit) it's good for those who really want money for techs and can sell stuff on market for anything above the 0.01 price but bad for most others

Re: scarcity events

He could be but, he may be a lower lvl and not know how much this would impact some players when crop is reduced, and you wake up to find your troops have starved when you worked out that you would be on in time before.

Not only starved, but you also got hit for 100k cuz of the remnants of your starved army ;)

Terrible idea, at least for crop... I could see other resources more, but it wouldn't affect me, I'd just farm full warehouses and take their already stockpiled wood/iron/stone

Re: scarcity events

I am in the younger ones but it could go both ways.. Bumper crops and motherlodes, for example. Also the effects could exclude crops or at least have a lesser effect than younger ones.

Re: scarcity events

It's not that bad of an idea. This would force armies to fight over resources. At the moment, there is very little reason to fight over them since they are all so abundant. In the extreme case that there are none, then you can buy crops or any other resource for cheap on the market.
