I have tried to find it, and could someone explain the strategy/commands you use when fighting with Cats V's oasis? I can't make my cats fire on what I want and end up losing some because their archers get too close. I know to kill their ranged units first but it doesn't seem to let me. What am I not doing? (I have shooting tech 3)

i usally like to move my cats to turnes forward then put them on wait

And let the comp choose targets? What I'm finding frustrating is why I can't fire in archers until they are close enough to take me out too

by two rounds (then wait) cavs and maybe half of inf gone

I'm still doing something wrong or missing something obvious.

I keep losing Cats even with the required number because I can't shoot the archer until they are in range of me. Then the archers will take out a few of my cats just as i kill them. My normal combat goes like this..

Round 1 - move my Cats forwards and tell them to fire on the archers (they don't do this. They either fire on the computer's cav or do nothing). round 2 - killing off the rest of the cav. Round 3 - troops. Round 4 - I start taking fire before I can finish the computer off.

sorry to be a pain, but it is getting frustrating. Can you talk through what you would do for this sort of battle

ok i did a test run with 52 cats againts a level 5 oasis heres what i did...


Cats move forward, attacked cav
Cats wait, finish cavs
Cats still on wait, target archers
(archers dead) cats move forward, attack inf
cats move forward finish inf
cats move forward finish cats

EDIT: oh yea i forgot to add, i lost one cat :( lol

Upgrading range tech will help your problem with archers.

If your ranged units don't attack immediately or attack the wrong target, it's because they're not in range. If an enemy unit or turret is in range, your units will attack even if you try no to attack.

I always move whatever ranged unit i'm currently using forward until I hit something. Cav are usually first, lol. I move forward until my ranged can hit another unit all the while finishing off cav. If the cav are going to hit you next turn, move backwards. The cav won't have enough range on their attacks to hit you while you're moving backwards. On about the third turn, if ranged units are low you may feel the need to begin moving backwards while targeting ranged units. Be careful of their infantry and don't forget about them while trying to fend off their range. Last comment even more true about forts.

Ok. To expand on what Erraven said, you should understand a couple numbers.

Your Cats will not fire on the Archers simply because they are not yet in range. The way range works is the following (without considering any modifiers):
    1 - Field length will be equal to the unit in battle with highest range (Cats) +300. Cats have a range of 800. That means that if you do not upgrade your Shooting tech, all Oasis fights with Cats will always be 1,100 in length.
    2 - Bows have a movement of 125, while Cats have a movement of 50. Adding those up, you close a gap of 175 field spots. That is still 125 short of being in range of your Cats. If the target you assigned to a unit is out of range by the end of that turn, the computer will (thankfully) auto-target whatever is closest and within range.
    3 - If you leave your Cats at that 50 spot forward location, Bows will still not be able to hit them, but you WILL be able to hit them. Follow my math a bit to see that in two turns the computer moved the Bows 250 spots, and you moved your cats 50 spots. That makes up for the +300 field length difference, but the bows still have 200 spots to go before they can shoot your cats (Bow range is 600).

So your solution?

Do not move anything but your cats on turn one. Then set them to wait until they kill the bows on turn 2 (and the incoming cats at later Oasis levels). If you have enough Cats to kill the Swords before the computer's Cats gets in range, then you don't need to move anything else. If you dont have enough cats to do this, then youll need to move your infantry ahead just to soak up some damage while your guns finish the job.

Better solution?

Upgrade your shooting. Each level will give you +2% range for all units. That means that your cats would look like:
Shooting level...0.....1....2.....3.....4.....5....6.....7.....8.....9....10
Cat Range......800..816..832..848..864..880..896..912..928..944..960

Not only will your Cats reach further, but the field will get longer. Remember the +300 field length modifier. All that should give you a lot more breathing room to maneuver in a fight.

That's pretty much it. Hope it helps.
