Chat Crash(Vote 2)

Dear players, we need more information to spot the reason for chat crash and so we open two threads to gather more information, and hope you can help us to find it sooner.

In your reply, please offer more details of the crash if it has happened to you.

It's crashed once on me. I was leaving chat and started to do something else (I believe I went to the Actions tab). I'm using an iPod Touch 3G with iOS4.

iOS4, 3GS. Chat down all day.

I don't crash

I crashed by opening inbox, exiting chat, posting in chat. Market, checking map and accepting members in alliance

Hello all! the chat problem I believe is due to the 4.0 software with multitasking abllity, on an iphone or ipod device running the new 4.0 firmware from apple it allows the user to exit an app and the app stays running in the background. The app never turns off. Ive also noticed that the mailbox will stop working as well. sometimes you can click back and forth from the map, to the mailbox to the chat and it will reload the system but it seems the only way to fix temporarily is to restart the device. I also believe this will be a problem when the next round of PVP starts, due to the multitasking capabilities and the app not turning off every time you open the app it starts you back out where you left off, it never gets to the login screen. It will be a hassle to restart the device every time you need to switch from PVP to regular game play.

You will also notice that the main number of crashes is on the 3gs, right now most people playing on a 3gs are updated to the 4.0 firmware from apple this is what is causing most of the problems.
The 3g iphone is not compatible with the multitasking ability and so the 3g still logs out every time you exit the app. I believe the problem is due to the multitasking ability and the easiest way to fix this that i can think of would be to put a log out button somewhere on the city view screen. A way to log out and back in could greatly reduce the hassle of restarting the device and cut down the amount of traffic sent to and from the server due to all the devices not logging out.

Regarding what 1Million said, it does seem that if you leave the app multitasking in the background for long periods of time, when you go back in chat will just hang on the spinning wheel. The only way around this is to completely close the app and restart it. Then chat loads like lightning.
