Battle lost due to connection problem

3. What happened
I was just about to attack a fort with 13000 infantry and 5700 cats, when suddenly the game kept loading and telling me to check connection. This lasted for about an hour and I was unable to command the battle. I tried quitting the game and restart but still had the same problem. When I finally logged in properly, I had lost 5k cats and almost all infs.
4. Other circumstances
I was using an ipad with wifi and I did check my internet connection which was perfect as I could browse other web sites with no problem at all. The only 2 sites I couldn't access were this forum and the game itself.
5. Suggestions why it happened
I thought the server was hacked and crashed, but I haven't heard anyone else complaining about this yet. So this might be an individual accident due to lag.
6. What you want (e.g. Troops back)
I would be happy if I can get my troops back, after all it was not my fault and it's very discouraging.
7. Maybe ss (=screen shots)
I can provide the war report if needed.
