Only rock types can learn self sac and martyr. The reason it's a physical skill is so that it can kill water and gràss monsters since it doesn't have an elemental disadvantage.

Correct, and it will not affect ghost types. Ghost and "shun" are the only things that help against matyrdom and self-sac.

Penetrate does cut through Foresight, but I dont know about taunt, Can't remember.
