Synthesis and grades?

Does synthesis grades work like breeding?
If I synthesis A grade monsters will I get an epic A grade monster?

Also, is it more efficient to get two epics regular grade and breed them to A GRADE or is it better to breed the lower monsters to A grade first and than synthesis those lower A grade monsters?

I'm on the Road of finding out if Synthing S + S = S

I alreay know that. If you synth S and S both pure you will get pure S out. My
