UniHiGuy Prologue Competition Entry #2
I wasn't thinking of making a second entry but..... here goes:
Everyone knew the story of the eight relics. You grew up hearing about them. The eight relics that, when collected, would give their owner access to the key that unlocked the door to the future. But, of course, everyone knew that they didn't exist. Until the day that the great sailor Rangt returned to port with one of the eight relics in his hands. Those there who saw it rushed forward to claim it as their own. In the ensuing riot, the town was destroyed. A boy/girl watching from the sidelines saw the relic fall into the ocean. A few moments later, the dead bodies of his/her mother and father fell into the ocean as well. Several days later, when the boy/girl was finished mourning the death of his/her parents, he/she hopped aboard a ship, ready to find out if the treasures that his/her parents died for was really worth dying for.
