Age of Exploration

My first entry to the competition! I kinda winged this story without any brainstorming so I don't expect this one to be the best of my entries (I'm hoping to submit more). Basically done in a single post, with no Word document to edit or revise my prologue. Still, I would love feedback so please comment on areas that you like and that needs improvement!

Age of Exploration
Time has passed for it is now the future. Tomorrow is today and today is yesterday. Mankind has prospered over the years, and they have only begun to explore the world that lies before them. It is no longer the age of knights and archers. Technology and science now govern the states. Outcomes of battles and wars depend on whoever has the latest and best technology. Submarines and steamboats dominate the oceans. It is no longer the age of galleons and wooden ships. Mankind is no longer fascinated by land. There lies only one thing left to explore and discover, the vast oceans.

Back in the early ages of Fairy dust Sapiens, there was not much technology. Magic governed the lands and magic held the key to power. As technology grew, magic receded, until technology has almost vanquished what was once known as magic. There are few things that correlate to magic now. Now that magic is scarce, people fight vigorously over what remnants of magic they can scavenge. It is rumored that soon there will be no more magic left in the world. Until an ancient prophecy was discovered.

In the age of magic, warlords clashed day and night over power. Every warlord held a strong relic that gave them their magic power, otherwise they would fall swiftly. Knights rode into battle with blazing swords and archers shot arrows that shocked their victims to death. As technology began to consume magic, the battles began to change to a different concept. Instead of shooting magic arrows, the archers began to shoot faster and more accurate arrows. Knights no longer rode into battle but instead charged in with lances and heavy duty weapons. Catapults were invented and siege technology began to spring up. Eventually, magic began to be hardly used at all, and were forgotten by the warlords. After centuries of fighting, eight remaining warlords were left with millions of soldiers dead. The eight warlords agreed to cease all fighting, and an alliance was made to unite the nations they controlled. Immediately, small fights began to burst out as each nation realized that the magical relics were a mighty power. Tired and battered by the endless war, the warlords agreed that the relics caused war and violence in their nations. The warlords gathered their legendary relics together, a total collection of eight relics, and without a hesitation, they buried the treasure in the depths of the ocean, never to be seen again.

The ancient prophecy states that when the eight relics are found, an auspicious power will be unleashed, creating a wormhole into the future. The prophecy claims that this power will reveal unimaginable powers to the person that collects all eight, including insight to the future. It is most definitely a power to be reckoned with.

With eight relics lying in the vast unknown ocean, hundreds of thousands of adventurers gather up their forces to hunt for these artifacts, each adventurer hoping to be the one that finds the relics. Submarines equipped with high tech devices depart from the ports of each nation everyday. People sacrifice their jobs and lives to find these objects of immense power. A new age has been marked, The Age of Exploration.

Re: Age of Exploration

Just realized it changed fairy dust sapiens into Fairy dust sapiens... I do not know why the word hom-o is banned but anyways it should refer to humans.

And thanks a lot for the comment jesu!
