David v's Goliath ( Haypi article competition )

'Slash' 'Hack', they were ruthless. The black horsemen came and plundered every morsel of food and treasure they could pillage leaving a death trail of battered corpses. They left nothing behind and certainly no survivors. What was once a resourceful and beautiful city had in an instance been reduced to nothing more than a derelict, burning wasteland. The crop fields were mutilated, the houses were burned, villagers dead. Famicom later returned that day to find the devastation that had been caused by her deadliest enemy, Misguided. They had left her with nothing, not even a morsel of a soul and all that Famicom could do was pine away and stare at her once prosperous town which was now nothing more than a wreck.
Word quickly spread of this attack, through the land with Misguided rejoicing at such a deadly plunder, toasting their beer, sharing their spoils and singing to the misfortune of Famicom. It was possibly Misguided's finest hour and they were savouring every minute of it. Their black knights felt no remorse at what they did as they continued to party throughout the night.

The following day, news hit the AWE alliance as to the unfortunate incident of their member Famicom. She was by now a dejected and forlorn figure who did not know what to do. Pining in the corner of her battered city, she refused to be moved. Her friends Kentucky and BurntAsh tried to console her, but it was futile. How could anyone possibly be consoled over the devastation of which she has come back to. It was as though that was it - the end.

Orion, a young swashbuckling warrior was walking by when he noticed Famicom sitting alone in the middle of a burnt field. Famicom was staring into the open space, holding herself in the cold wind amongst the smoke of the burnt out field. Orion approached Famicom and tapped her on the back. Famicom was initially a little startled, turned around and barely able to control herself said, "What do you want ? I have nothing, please leave me alone."

Orion responded, "Hi, I'm your neighbour, Orion. Why are you sitting here all alone? What has happened?"

Famicom reluctantly told Orion what had happened, barely able to keep her emotions under control.

Orion, initially startled at the devastation of the attack from Misguided was in shock as to how such an act of war could have happened. He tried to console her, but again, it was futile. Famicom walked away into the fields alone, walking towards the sunset, head in her hands, a totally downcast figure.

Orion, headed back to his city. In the back of his mind, he was feeling the pain of his neighbour and was determined to fight back at Misguided. However, he knew that this was no easy task. Misguided was immense, he had the wealth to buy himself out of any situation by throwing money at it. Orion on the other hand was just a young warrior with a small army. He knew that in a kingdom to kingdom war, he would stand no chance at all against the imperious black army of Misguided. Orion knew that he had to face Misguided himself and to do that he had to act quickly.

Later that night, Orion infiltrated Misguided's castle. Climbing through the window, he stealthily weaved his way past guards and servants until he reached the castle's inner chamber. He peered around the corner of the entrance and could see hoards of men, still in their black suits of armour, heavily sedated from the celebrations of their pillage. On the other end of the room, he could see a maniacal figure, slouched on a throne, with a goblet of wine in one hand and a handful of treasure in the other, fast asleep. Orion immediately knew that it was Misguided.

Orion carefully made his way through the heap of drunken soldiers, making absolute sure that he was not going to alert any of them. In truth, they were so drunk, even the sound of the morning town crier was not going to wake them. Orion finally made it to Misguided. Carefully, he pulled out his dagger from his sheath on his belt and carefully placed the cold, sharp blade into Misguided's direction. Misguided woke up at an instance, startled. Just as Misguided was about to mutter anything, Orion, whispered into his ear, 'If I hear anything more than a squeak from you, you're dead". Misguided, paralysed by Orions action, dropped both the goblet and treasure on to the floor. Orion raised Misguided up from the throne and guided him out of the chamber and out of the castle. Upon reaching the outskirts of Misguided's city, Orion tied Misguided to a tree.

Misguided, still in a daze from the celebrations, asked:

"Are you going to kill me?"

To which Orion replied:

"No, I am going to take from you what you took from Famicom"

At which then, Orion left Misguided and headed back into the castle.

Moments later, the dark night began to glow. The glow was not from the sky, but it was from within the castle. Orion had set the entire vicinity on fire. As Misguided watched, helplessly from the tree, he could see his empire burning and crumbling. There was no stopping the fire, the soldiers were all drunk and asleep . The fire devoured the once prestigious chateau. What once took years to build was being destroyed in a matter of minutes as the fire burned uncontrollably.

Hours later, as the sun was rising, Orion appeared from the cindered wreck and made his way towards Misguided. Misguided, unable to move, was clearly distressed as he watched his acropolis burn in front of his very own eyes.

Orion glanced at Misguided and whispered:

"Hurts doesn't it?"

and walked back into the forest, back towards his city.

On his way back, he passed Famicom who was still sitting in the same place that he had left her the previous day. He told her what he did and she could not believe what she was hearing. She could not understand how a single warrior could take on the might of Famicom who had so much wealth that he could buy his way out and into anything.

From that day, Famicom and Orion became the best of allies. Orion, along with the rest of the AWE ally members helped Famicom back to her feet and helped to rebuild her city. Famicom's knight in shining armour had appeared at a time when he was so needed and he delivered.

The moral of the story, David did beat Goliath, and just because you have a lot of coins, it doesn't necessarily make you a good player.

Not bad, but it is very noticeable you are using a thesaurus for almost every word.

Thanks. By that I think you mean that I was using words like chateau and acropolis? I am British that has been studying french and Latin for a good part of 10 years. These types of words are actually drilled into me, coupled to the fact that I play a lot of these games, those images do actually spring to mind when I was composing.

Okay cool. ;) They just have different meanings, I guess, and some other parts seemed a little too stretched. Not a bad story though. :)

Thanks bro ..... my original one was even longer but I have cut it down already ..... as it was something that happened in my alliance, I had so much detail on it and hence it got a tad long :D
