I don't foresee mobile devices having the capacity any time soon to handle that level of complexity. I maybe wrong, but I would think there would be significant performance issues.
2) HK would need to start charging customers to play, hence killing the main player base. AOL's old mmorpg "Neverwinter Nights" can atest to this one as when it went from free to a monthly charge (think it was $5) 95% of the player base left over night. The game was shut down within the month.
3) Employees at Apple stores don't make those types of decisions. Those usually come from the corporate offices.
Point 1: You clearly dont know what you're talking about, it would actually be quite easy to create a desktop client. They already have a connection interface which the mobile clients use to connect. They would only have to build a client that interprets that same data and they would be done.
Point 2 & 3: You're completely right if the would replace the micro paymebt system for a monthly payment system they would lose about all of their customer base. Apple is a multi-billion dollar company no one on the ground floor of such companies calls shots like that. Those decisions are made by the executives.
But I personally find it quite annoying that HK has no desktop client. This way I always have to cary my phone arround.
