Manual or Automatic attacks for oasis

Greetings all,

I'm new to the game and I'm curious about the combat. I've been having the computer run my battles for me and it seems like there has to be a better way. I'm trying to occupy level 9 oasis and I was hoping with 1000 cats that I wouldn't lose any other troops (I sent in 1200 inf and 500 archer to help cats). I lost hundreds of each, but not any cats, when I took the oasis.

I've tried searching in these forums for guides on specifics of how combat works, so I can optimize my losses when taking forts/oasis. Does anyone have access to any such guide? I see various posts that say if you have enough cats, you don't need to send in any other troops, but I'm not sure the strategy to employ to guarantee that I don't lose any of my precious cats.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated! :)

Be well.

Re: Manual or Automatic attacks for oasis

You should manually command almost all the time because automatic commanding sends all troops forward.
The best method when using catapults is to wait them from round 1 (you could also use the backward catapult trick, which is very long and doesn't work a lot of the time.)

Many guides are available in the haypi guides section, I'm busy at the moment :/

Thanks for the speedy reply! :)

So, if I always "wait" the cats, which enemy units do I target and eliminate first?

(I'll try looking again through the guides again, but I didn't have much luck the last two times I've searched)

Re: Manual or Automatic attacks for oasis

Cavs first round, then inf for 2 rounds, archers 4th round, inf for 5, cats for 6, and rest on inf if still left

if you don't kill all the cavs in one turn.... 3rd on arch, 4-5 on inf, 6 on cats, 7+ on inf

Awesome, thank you! I'll give this a try later tonight.

Do you know of an advanced strategy commanding guide?

Be well. :)

I'm sure there is one.... But I don't know of one

Over time you will get better and better at commanding and won't need guides :)

Re: Manual or Automatic attacks for oasis

catapults have a range of 800 + shooting
if you have level 1 shooting then cats will have a range of 816 and the battlefield will be 1116 long
meaning that
infantry will hit you on the 8th round
cavalry will hit you on the 4th round
archers will hit you on the 5th round
catapults will hit you on the 7th round

therefore cavalry 1st/2nd round, infantry 2nd/3rd round, archers 3/4th round, infantry 5th/6th round, catapults 6th/7th round, infantry 7th/8th round

for general assumptions:

Cavalry first attack
Cavalry second attack (if cavalry are dead, infantry)
Cavalry, Archers, Infantry in that priority on third round
(assuming cavalry are dead) Archers, Infantry on fourth round
(assuming cavalry are dead) Archers, Infantry on fifth round
Infantry/Catapults on 6th round in that priority
Catapults on the 7th round if shooting tech is lower than 4, if shooting is above four then infantry is fine
Infantry/Catapults on 8th round.

Of course, that's just general (and made up on the spot.) you may need adjustments, for example if attacking a fort which say has 2000 infantry, 100 cavalry, and 50 archers (or so) and you only have about 150 catapults (which will mean you will probably take losses) then it's better to attack the infantry and leave the archers to die when they hit you (maybe 5 catapults lost) and you hit them on the counterattack then to waste a whole turn attacking the archers when the infantry can advance farther and massacre you.
Just my opinion though.

Best Regards

Re: Manual or Automatic attacks for oasis

i think that should be changed to if you use ranged units you should never lose a troop. if you use only melee units you will lose troops
how do you let people know if your hot cakes are selling well?
