I completely agree with the idea that ads should have more of a limitation on them. However, I see a few problems with the way things are going so far. The first being, Yodac, you're idea while it seems good when you look at the outer shell, could cause more problems than it solves. If we have people who would fight for their right to post ads, then they could begin saying that since they have a shorter ad, they should he allowed to post them with less of a time limit. While having just a FEW people doing this could be resolved easily, there is a good chance others will pick up on it, seeing this as a way to get their ads out to more people.
Another is that we obviously have people who would like to get rid of ads completely. The problem is, some lower level players would like to hear a bit more about the alliance other than just the name, number of members, and the ranking. While many ads only use this information, some also don't feel like scouring through the list of hundreds of alliances looking for the right one, when the ad could save them time and let them simply type the name in and go. This also shows a more promising chance of an active alliance. I'm not stating that all alliances that don't advertise are inactive, but saying that if the newer player wants to stay under the radar to begin with, why not give one of the advertisements a shot.
These are my ideas about how we should go about this;
1. Possibly creating an all new form of chat featuring alliance ads ONLY. This would prevent those who are already in alliances from having to view it, but still give those who want to advertise or possibly switch to a new alliance a chance to find some new options.
2. If suggestion one is possible, we would definitely need a way to keep the advertisements out of the "Spam" zone. So we could use the seperate tab for experts to use to view the Advertisement room. We could obviously lower the requirements a bit, since it wouldn't bother those in the ordinary "World Chat" we could maybe reduce it to 3 minutes or something along those lines.
3. If it proves too challenging to create an entire new chat room, we could use the "Alliance" tab as the room for people who no longer have alliances, or are beginning to search for one.
4. If suggestion three is possible, this would make it easier for the system to control spamming, and for alliances to decide on a single post (Modifiable at any time) by giving them a new tab in the "Alliance" tab to control multiple people posting ads for the same alliance, and would be an unusable button until the time limit that would he decided upon is up. This would eliminate any spam, accidental or not, from alliance ads while letting "Workd Chat" run much smoother.
If you have anything to add, or any questions, please let me know. I would be glad to clear anything up. It would also allow this suggestion to grow into more of a Haypi-Wide action, instead of only my ideas.
Thanks.
