Top 10 reasons why Haypi Kingdom is tediously boring

EDIT: Trimmed down my opening post as it was way too crufty.

Summary:

* Game looks great when you start
* But most alliances are deadbeat and nothing happens so early game can be boring
* As server matures, armies get hidden more and there's nothing to do

Top 10 reasons the game is boring, in no particular order:

1. It takes to long to build armies

So people are over protective of their troops = fewer wars = boring.

Suggestion: Make armies much quicker to build, so that people are more reckless with them.

2. No reason to defend cities

So people don't defend = Unprotected villages = fewer wars = boring.

Suggestion: Allow damage to village buildings if an attack that includes catas goes undefended (traps/towers count as defence), but not paid upgrades to resources. People will defend more.

Suggestion: Make subs generate prestige, and also capturing a sub will involve big prestige transfer. More people will defend!

3. Empty villages

The reasons for empty villages are mentioned above, but this is such an important factor why the game is tedious (there is literally nothing to do on a mature server) that I thought I'd mention it again.

Suggestion: Provide compelling reasons for people to defend their villages.

Suggestion: And allow reinforcements to be sent from other players to a village so that smaller players can defend against huge armies.

4. Oasis depreciation

Who thought that it would be challenging, exciting and rewarding to have to recapture all your oasis every day? Whatever they were smoking, can I get some?

Suggestion: See my Prisons topic for a possible solution to this tedium: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4388

5. Even if you do find an army....

Most players dodge your attack because there's no point in them defending (See points 1-3 above) = less battles = boring.

And for people who can't teleport the chances of them finding an army home in the village are practically zero, so large number of players who don't buy coins will never launch any attacks other than farming raids.

Suggestion: Again, give people a reason to defend their subs!! See the recurring theme here?

6. Even if you defeat a big army...

Many players, after a few big defeats, will quit the game. It just takes too long to rebuild their army and their prestige is nuked to oblivion as an extra reason for them to quit.

Suggestion: Make armies quicker to build (another recurring theme!)

Suggestion: Make sure there are more armies in cities (recurring theme!) so that people can regain their prestige

7. Everything takes so long to do

Building armies. Upgrading resources. Scouting hundreds of empty villages. Teleporting (if you're lucky enough to have coins) only to find the enemy dodges.

Suggestion: Make it more rewarding! If I have to spend time doing something, I want a big reward. If I have to spend money doing something, I want a big reward. If I have to put a lot of effort in to someting, I want a big reward. Capiche?

Example: Spending crazy number of coins to upgrade crop to lvl 20 is not rewarding enough. I'd expect at least double the current crop production from what current lvl 20 gives me for the amount of coins (in other words, real world money) I have to spend getting there.

8. Reward << Effort/Time/Money

An immature server will yield a short period of reward - where you can quickly grow and gain prestige through war, etc.

But as time goes on everything just grinds to a halt. There's no armies to attack. Levelling your title becomes insanely slow and tedious.

On a mature server the amount of time, effort and money you have to invest significantly outweighs the pitiful reward/excitement you'll get as a result.

Suggestion: Stop letting accountants ("how many coins can we get them to spend") define the game metrics and actually develop it so that it gives enjoyment to your customers!

9. Alliances are almost pointless

You can't properly wage war on another alliance. All you can do is taunt the enemy in wc. Their armies are never home. This is hugely demotivating for an alliance to wage war and then not actually be able to do anything meaningful.

Suggestion: Give compelling reasons to defend cities! (this issue just isn't going to go away, is it?)

Suggestion: Enable reinforcements so there is some additional benefit to being in an alliance

Note: If you're in a good alliance, the people make it worthwhile - I love Dragons alliance on Server 8 because they are all crazy and awesome at the same time. If it wasn't for ac with those people I would have quit long ago.

10. The end goal is kind of boring as well

This is my first time playing hk, so I'm only going off what others have told me. My understanding is that the goal of the game is for you to become "King of Kings" title. To do that you have to sit through unimaginable boredom trying to find, and successfully attack, armies in cities -- only there are none. And one single defeat can literally send your prestige back to the dark ages. Risk >>> Reward.

Suggestion: The goal of the game should be for an entire alliance (or coalition of alliances) to achieve something. And it shouldn't be prestige based (although high prestige should be needed to complete the goal IMHO).

Compare to Travian.com

I played travian a lot a few years ago. You should be using that as your benchmark:

* People would bitterly defend cities and even crop oasis! (you could upgrade crop oasis once you owned them)
* People would even defend their resources!
* Alliance wars were common - because there were actually battles involved.
* You could send an attack 6 hours across the map and know that there would be someone defending against it.
* Players banded together to reinforce against attacks against big players.
* Armies were quick to build so everyone was keen to get in on the action.
* The server goal was for an alliance to build a "World Wonder" - everyone had to contribute with resources, troops, attacks, etc.

That is all. ithankyou.

<3Aub

Okay so you spelt Haypi* wrong in the beginning

(Fey the spelling nazi strikes again)

And I agree, but some of your reasons are contradicting.
Like, you say we should have starving troop warnings, right? Well, if you're trying to starve out an enemies troops, you wouldn't really want them to be notified of this, would you?
(Although I guess it does also notify if they're being attacked)

I suppose instead of scouting for more and more left out troops, you should be more tactical. Or take the game less seriously?

No one needs to be on for more than a couple hours a day. But many do..
/raiseshand
But, if it's getting boring to you, log on less. I mean.. no ones forcing you to play.
But I understand. :p I love haypi too and I don't want to quit my gameplay just because it got a little boring.
My whole thing for keeping it insteresting is Chat, but I know you don't really chat much.

Hmm.. other than that.. Maybe try new tactics. Like.. try and see how Archers can be used effectively. Like a chemist! Try new formulas and ideas.

Just some options.

Re: Top 10 reasons why Haypi Kingdom is tediously boring

I agree I been wiped several times I rebuilt but I lose more to starvation then not AT&T towers went down for 3houres got on and 5k inf 2k bows and 3k cats gone now all I do is spread my army completely out and haven farmed a fort all weak and just use my own resources I have up on scouting a long time ago there is now point in atking must the time you cach someone out and it lands they spend coins and retreat on s5

at the must give everything in servor a 5-10% speed boast which should help building armies buildings research gaining resources and atking

If it wasn't for my army getting wiped, twice in a row, not long after starting the game I would have quit due to boredom a long time ago.

The only reason I'm still playing is because the people are awesome, but the gameplay has become tedious and unrewarding.

1. Ito took years to build an army in the middle ages. Upgrade your barracks and be patient.

2. Challenge someone to a battle.

3. If it's boring why do you play.

4. Supposed to be new stuff in next upgrade.

Re: Top 10 reasons why Haypi Kingdom is tediously boring

The starter of this thread read my mind exactly. With each point he's mentioned, I've felt the same exact way about it. I've recently grown so bored that I've stopped actually playing the game and only come on to chat.

Re: Top 10 reasons why Haypi Kingdom is tediously boring

I agree w/ a lot of this. I am still somewhat stunned at how often people teleport their cities for the sole purpose of a single attack. The first few times it happened, I nearly shat my pants because I figured the only reason would drop coins like that is to try and take my sub city. But nope, whoever it was just came by and did some random attacks on me for a day, then moved on. I guess when you compare this game to a subscription game, buying coins is fairly cheap.

A few tweaks to gameplay could really make a huge difference- IE what if you could knock a level off a mine/mill/cropland everytime you successfully attacked a city (and maybe if you knock if knocked all the buildings down to zero, you wipe it off the map)? What if instead of catapults having 100% damage at the very edge of their range, instead they only did a certain % of max damage until they get into certain range?

There have been hundreds if not thousands of suggestions, some I am sure would involve a lot of work, but many seem to be fairly small tweaks that could really add needed depth to the game. Haypi as it is right now is an excellent base of a game, it just needs a little more to it to get to the point where I am sitting there like a crazed civilization or starcraft addict that can't wait for his workday to end so he can play.

I wish they would open source the game, I would make the changes myself if I was given the opportunity!
