I started working on some stuff yesterday. I banged out a surprising amount of code, I have some basic classes that start the basic design, and started working on a client/server protocol. Hopefully today I will have a server that runs and can accept commands from a client library to login, and possibly download the world map.
From a general structure point of view, I want to mimic a lot of the basic haypi functionality, but expand on some areas- IE more units, more map square types (including tiles with defense modifiers) more complicated battles, and a backend technology that supports moving between servers.
One thing I know that I need that this project will absolutely fail without is a decent gui designer/programmer. I know almost nothing about building guis.
