I know that this is just airing on the side of caution but what if when apple update the iOS again and the same bug reappears? Or if the update doesn't actually fix this bug and lots of players are waiting until the next update after this one for it to be fixed?

Its a bug.....you dont make a new feature in the game to fix the bug...you just fix the bug at the core. If apple updates there iOS again and the bug reappears, then there gonna to fix the new bug.

I know that the bug isnt the main thing! It's mainly so you dont have to have PMs at the bottom of the screen that you sent 4 hours ago! It doesnt matter if you can delete the messages your still going to have some there if you use PMs a lot!

Why not just use the suggestion to turn the little bar at the bottom that updates chat off?
